Kristi Morris

Little Red Boots. That’s what they call me, so I’m guessing that’s my name. I belong to that talented lady this web site is named forKristi Morris. Now who better to tell you about her than me. After all, I am part of her, I’m part of her logo, and when I’m on her feet, I make her stand tall and I know just who she is.

Kristi was born during the hot month of August on the fourteenth day during the year mmmph. What’s that, I mumbled her year of birth? I’m sorry, but these boots are made for walkin’ and if I tell you when she was born they’d be a kickin’. Anyway, she was born on a farm in Kentucky, was one of a family of 12. That’s where she got her start in music. Her mom sang and played guitar and it rubbed off on almost all nine of her siblings. At the age of 12 she learned to play guitar and started writing her own lyrics and music in high school.

I like to think of her as the embodiment of my sole, er sorry my soul. I carry her all the way through everyday life and into her concerts. She’s my alter ego, so to speak and she uses me as her symbol and part of her logo. Kristi was shy before she got me, but after putting me on, she wasn’t shy anymore. That’s why I am her alter ego. So look for the little red boots and you’ll know it’s Kristi.

Kristi’s music is best described as “country-mountain-Americana-roots-folk rock”. She says that she is a country singer with mountain influence, a country mountain fusion. Whew, can’t we just call it New Country, 'cause that’s what it is. She gets her inspiration from her life’s stories. Like her addiction to alcohol from age 13 to 20. She calls it a social lubricant because everything seemed right with it. But there was an emptiness in her when the alcohol stopped working and now she’s 16 years sober and says that she is influenced by sobriety. That’s always good because like I said I’m made for walking and that doesn’t mean stumbling. The song Help You Hold On is from one alcoholic to another.

The major influence on her life, however, has been her relationship with God. She’s been active in the National Evangelical Team (NET) which is youth ministries with services and retreats. God’s influence is evident in her music and the way she lives her life with husband Jeff Kellogg, whom she met in 2000. Jeff plays the Djembe and acoustic bass and has been a huge part of what Kristi has become. Well, he kinda aided me and took my advice on how to win her heart. After all, I am her little red boots and who knows her better than me? The best part about Jeff and Kristi though is that Jeff enabled Kristi to do something she always wanted to do-make a living out of writing and singing for the world. Jeff was the bridge between Kristi and the world. Works for me since I take her where she wants to go.

Kristi learned her lessons of life and has incorporated them into her songs. Her absence from Kentucky has made her write better. I look better in the green grass though and maybe she’ll get me back there where I am the prettiest, but, hey, I stay with her through thick and thin. Kristi also says that being with Jeff 24/7 inspires her. Hey, what about me? Oh well, at least in concert I’m up front with her and as Kristi says, we all need to be true to ourselves.
